KeyAuth alternative: Foliox License compared feature by feature

If you use KeyAuth or are choosing between licensing services, here is a straight comparison — where Foliox License differs, where KeyAuth does more, and how to move your keys over.

Quick answer: which one fits you

  • Pick KeyAuth if you need end-user username/password accounts, chatrooms, file hosting or a Discord/Telegram bot for your sellers, or you want their ready-made C# and C++ examples.
  • Pick Foliox License if you want every license answer cryptographically signed (refusals too), a self-service check page for your customers, automatic customer e-mails, public keys for one-key-many-users, and SDKs for Python, Node.js, Go and Rust.

Both are hosted services with a free tier — you can try either in an afternoon.

Where KeyAuth does more

KeyAuth is a broader platform: end-user accounts with usernames and passwords, application variables and file downloads, chatrooms, and bots that let resellers create keys from Discord or Telegram. If your product depends on those, KeyAuth is the more complete fit, and we would rather say so.

Where Foliox License is different

  • Signed answers, always. Every activate/verify answer is signed with Ed25519 — including “no” — so a fake local server answering “valid” is rejected by the SDK.
  • Your customers can help themselves. A public license check page shows status and expiry, and lets a customer ask for a device reset that you approve.
  • E-mails are built in. Add a customer’s address to a key and they get it straight away, a reminder before it expires, and a notice when it has.
  • Public keys. One key that any number of people can use — for a free tier, a beta or a classroom — still expiring and revocable for everyone at once.
  • Scoped automation. API tokens with exactly the permissions they need, an optional IP allow-list and an expiry.

Moving from KeyAuth to Foliox License

  1. Map the concepts: a KeyAuth licence becomes a license key; HWID lock becomes the device lock; expiry/subscription becomes a fixed end date or “N days after activation”; the Seller API becomes the automation API.
  2. Create replacement keys in bulk from your customer list with the automation API — pass customerEmail and each customer is e-mailed their new key automatically.
  3. Swap the client call for the SDK’s check(key) — see the Python, Node.js, Go or Rust guide.
curl -X POST https://license.foliox.sbs/api/automation/v1/keys \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $LICENSE_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"product":"YOUR_PRODUCT_ID","count":1,"durationDays":30,"customerEmail":"[email protected]"}'

FAQ

Common questions

Is Foliox License affiliated with KeyAuth?

No. We are independent. This page compares the two to help people choosing a licensing service.

Is there a free KeyAuth alternative?

Yes — Foliox License has a Free plan with no card and no trial clock. The current limits are on the pricing page.

Can one key be used by many people?

Yes — create it as a public key: no device binding, still signed, and it expires or is revoked for everyone at once.

Can I move existing keys over?

Generate replacement keys in bulk with the automation API and pass each customer’s e-mail, so they receive their new key automatically.

Why compare against KeyAuth specifically?

It is a well-known name people searching for a license key service already recognise, so it is a useful reference point — this page is written to help with that choice, not to disparage it.
